I was there in 2017 - there were definitely birds at Auschwitz. The area behind the gas chambers and the modern monument etc (I think it is a waterworks...) is wooded and quite green.
I didn't see any birds at Birkenau which is where the barracks buildings and the very grisly exhibits are.

As if these places weren't depressing enough, there's a flourishing movement (backed by law/potential law) that Poland is blameless for the Holocaust .
Not that Poland would make it harder, for victims to get their property back.

I found an strange morbid comparison between Ilford and Auschwitz, i was in Ilford in 1995 before last month.
